Why extractions?

Sometimes teeth are beyond repair and will have to be extracted or the tooth may get severely infected and may spread to adjacent important structures. Under such circumstances, the tooth will have to be extracted. This is done under local anesthesia and for highly anxious patients, we have the option to get it done under minimal sedation using nitrous oxide. Rest assured that you will have a painless and anxiety-free experience here at Beaumaris Dental Care.

Post-operative care

Dr. Sara and her team will provide you with post-operative care instructions. In general, some of the guidelines you should follow are:
  • Keep your head elevated
  • No rinsing, spitting or smoking
  • You should maintain pressure on the gauze pad that will be placed over the surgical area by biting down for 30-45 minutes until bleeding reduces
  • You should avoid touching the surgical area with the tongue or your finger
  • Avoid using mouthwash that contains alcohol, as it may irritate the wound
  • Place ice packs to control swelling, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off
  • Eat only cold, soft and mild foods on the day of extraction and for the next few days
  • Keep your body hydrated

You can always contact our clinic if you need any clarification.
